Business vs Pleasure from Whitmeyer's distilling in Houston and DFWWC
Business vs Pleasure from Whitmeyer's distilling in Houston and DFW Whiskey Club
Business: 48 months 116pr
N: (7) Buttery, warm, slightly minty, brown sugar, molasses, and chocolate; with rubbery undertones, nail polish overtones, and dried green tea tones that present themselves with a powerful sniff.
P: (7) Cherry, tropical, industrial, bubble gum, brown sugar. Super sweet and on the darker side.
F: (8) Spice, herbs, dry finish more dark rubbery notes. Fades into persimmon, peach, apricot, and orange zest.
O: (22) Really quite a ride for such a young rye. I'm thoroughly impressed with this offering.
Pleasure: 47 months 116pr
N: (7) Sharp with green and red apples, tropical notes, tarragon, dill, spearmint, and a general soapy/industrial tone like potpourri mixed with hairspray. There's a savory flavor hiding in there somewhere but I can't put my finger on it. Like pizza or something.
P: (8) Very nice. This palate is very different from the nose and has such a great rich balance that I can't help it to think its it’s own flavor. Slightly bitter and kind of reminds me of tree bark. The outdoors.
F: (8) Brown sugar toasted marshmallow simple syrup. It's like adding brown sugar to hot syrup and imagining what that would taste like. The bubbles. The sizzle. There's a noticeable bitterness throughout. Herbal notes come through in a very balanced way. The finish is medium but the tannins stick around for a while.
O: (23) This was very surprising to me. The nose didn't lead me to expect the palate. I love a palate that expresses itself as it's own unique flavor and this one does it well. I just want to experience it over and over. I know that this may come across as a cop-out and it may very well be. All I can say is that it was very pleasurable and perhaps my palate wasn't refined enough to separate the notes. Either way. I'm impressed.
Final: The noses led me to believe that business was gonna be my thing but who am I kidding, I'm a pleasure guy all the way. All kidding aside; two very tasty ryes from Whitmeyer's distilling in Houston and amazing picks from the guys at DFWWC and Barrels and Bottles Foundation.
